Everyone loves a freebie and neither Sadie nor I are the exception. I have a penchant for trying out the free make up samples that I find in magazines. Foundation samples are the trickiest. I have pale skin and that means that every time I spread on my face the stuff that comes in these shiny sachets I take the risk to end up looking like a carnival mask. My friend X., who is naturally dark, says that make up samples are usually too light for her and that they make her look like a ghost. Foundation samples always seem to come in the wrong shade or perhaps we are simply picking up the wrong mag! / A todo el mundo le gustan las cosas gratis y ni Sadie ni yo somos una excepción. Tengo debilidad por las muestras gratuitas de maquillaje que encuentro en las revistas. Mi piel es pálida y eso significa que cada vez que me embardurno con los potingues que hay en esos sobrecitos corro el riesgo de parecer una máscara de carnaval. Mi amiga X. que es de piel oscura, dice que las muestras de maquillaje suelen ser demasiado claras para ella, y que le dan una apariencia de fantasma. ¡Las muestras de maquillaje siempre son de una tonalidad equivocada o quizás somos nosotras las que nos equivocamos al coger la revista!
Even though I signed up for a Blogger account on November 2009, almost all my blog activity during 2010 was developed on a blog hosted in the Spanish Elle magazine site. Starting a blog is never easy, you get few visits and comments, if any, and let´s face it, if your blog has no readers you are likely to give it up and shut down your site within a year. As a child I cursed my fate because I didn´t have a common name. I thought that Genevieve - Genoveva in Spanish and Catalan - was an unbearable ugly, long and silly name that I was even ashamed of pronounce. "What´s your name" was one of the most terrifying things that people could ask me. My attitude towards my name changed drammatically in my early teens when all I wanted was to stand out of the crowd. Today I can say I´m proud of my name./ De niña odiaba no tener un nombre "normal". Creía que Genoveva era un nombre insoportablemente feo, largo y estúpido que incluso me daba vergüenza pronunciar. "Como te llamas" era una de las peores cosas que la gente me podía preguntar. Mi actitud hacia mi nombre cambió radicalmente en mi primera etapa adolescente. Supongo que a esa edad todos queremos "destacar". Hoy en día estoy orgullosa de mi nombre y no lo cambiaría por ningún otro.
When I was about nine years old I was given a delightful book about a baby girl called Veva. I have remembered a Veva´s mum quote that said: " There´s not such a thing as beautiful or ugly names, it´s those who bear them who make them beautiful or ugly"/ "Veva" and "Genevieve of Brabant" were the beginning of my collection of books starred by women called Geneviève. My "Genovevas library" includes "The Oracle Glass" by Judith Merkle;"The Lady and the Unicorn" Tracy Chevalier;"Au Bonheur des Dames" Zola and "The Knight of the Red House" Dumas,etc./ Cuando tenía nueve años me regalaron el libro "Veva" de Carmen Kurtz y siempre he recordado una frase de la madre de Veva que decía algo así: "No hay nombres bonitos o feos. Son las personas que los llevan quienes los embellecen o los afean"."Veva" , después de "Genoveva de Brabante" inició mi colección de libros con protagonistas llamadas Genoveva. En mi "biblioteca de Genovevas" actual tengo "El Oráculo de Cristal" de Judith Merkle ;"Veva" de Elena Santiago; "La dama y el unicornio"" de Tracy Chevalier; "Viatge a la batalla de l´Ebre" de Gabriel Martínez; "Au Bonheur des Dames" de Zola y "Le Chevalier du Maison Rouge" de Dumas entre otros.
