Time doesn´t belong to us. . .

"Time doesn´t belong to us, we belong to time but at least I like to delude myself into thinking that I can keep it under control. That´s why I have to check what time is every now and then" Today you´ll know a bit more about me thanks to María José and a pair of blog awards that she has kindly passed on me. Rules say that I have to answer a questionaire which hopefully you´ll find amusing. Here we go!

5. Funny Habits / Hábitos Extraños
1.- As I said above, I´m always watching the time./ Como he dicho más arriba, esa manía de mirar la hora.
2.- I usually paint my toe nails. It doesn´t matter if it´s winter and I´m going to put on thick socks and boots. / Suelo pintarme siempre las uñas de los pies; no importa que sea invierno y tenga que ponerme calcetines gruesos y botas.
3.- I hate the feeling of dust on my hands but that´s not an excuse for avoiding some house chores. When I finish dusting, I rush to the water basin to wash my hands even if I have some other cleaning tasks to do afterwards.
    Odio la sensación del polvo en mis manos. Cuando me toca hacer de maruja y quitar el polvo, corro enseguida a lavarme las manos, aunque me estén esperando otras tareas de limpieza. Ay, esa sensación de ácaros y células muertas pegadas en mis manos.¡Ugh!
4.- Drinking plenty of water before going to sleep. I drink as if there were no water on Earth tomorrow...
     Beber una gran cantidad de agua antes de ir a dormir. ¡Ni que se fuera a terminar el agua de la Tierra mañana!
5.- Keeping flour in the fridge.
     Guardar la harina en el frigorífico.

So many favourite shops and so little money...In Barcelona I enjoy doing my shopping at a vegan shop located at 330, Mallorca street. It has an excellent range of vegan cold cuts and slices and amazing cakes made by a local confectionery firm called Lujuria Vegana.  
Como sé que la mayoría dirá alguna tienda de ropa, accesorios,cosmética,etc, seré más original y eligiré la tienda vegana que hay en el número 330 de la calle Mallorca de Barcelona. Dispone de una excelente gama de embutidos y preparados 100% vegetales y deliciosas tartas hechas por la compañía Lujuria Vegana.
WHEN AND WHY I STARTED MY BLOG / CUANDO Y PORQUÉ EMPECÉ MI BLOG
I signed up for a Blogger account in October or November 2009 but my first blog was hosted at ELLE.ES. I didn´t follow or read any blogs by then, I just wanted to open one and use it as a sort of showcase for my illustrations but shortly after I discovered a new whole world called blogosphere... and that´s how the story began.
Abrí cuenta en Blogger en Octubre o Noviembre del 2009 pero mi primer blog estaba alojado en la web  de Elle España. Por aquel entonces no seguía ni leía ningún blog y al abrir el mio sólo pretendía usarlo como una especie de escaparate para mis ilustraciones pero enseguida descubrí todo un nuevo mundo llamado blogosfera . . . y así empezó todo.

Tagua para elefantes / Elephants love tagua!

La tagua o marfil vegetal, es el nombre con el que se conoce a las semillas de las palmeras de la familia Phytelephas ( planta elefante), ya que la sustancia que contienen en su interior es muy parecida al marfil animal y una vez desecada se puede esculpir y elaborar con ella botones, joyas, figuras ornamentales,etc. Las restricciones en el comercio de marfil y la sensibilidad ecológica han popularizado en los últimos años la tagua, beneficiando a la economía local  y al desarrollo ecológico y sostenible de  las comunidades de Ecuador, Panamá y Colombia que han trabajado este material desde antaño.
Tagua or vegetable ivory, is produced by some Southern American palms (Phytelephas "plant elephant"), both names refere to the hard substance contained inside their seeds. Once dried, it can be carved just as elephant ivory and used to make buttons, jewellery, decorative figurines, etc. Restrictions on ivory trade and the rising of environmental awarness have benefited local economies and helped indigenous communities from Ecuador, Panama and Colombia that have traditionally used this vegetable seed for centuries.

Mañana se estrena en España "Agua para elefantes", la película basada en la novela homónima de Sara Gruen. Esperemos que el film protagonizado por Robert Pattinson y Reese Witherspoon sea al menos la mitad de emocionante... / Water for elephants comes to Spanish cinemas tomorrow. We hope the film based on Sara Gruen´s novel is at least as half as exciting as the book..

Si, Sadie interpreta su particular momentazo fotografía Richard Avedon, vistiendo para la ocasión un mono pata elefante con pequeños brillantitos que simulan las uñas de los paquidermos y con tirantes y pendientes de tagua. Es flanqueada por dos elefantes, africano y asiático, en homenaje a estos maravillosos animales perseguidos y masacrados por sus colmillos o esclavizados y maltratados en circos o como atracción turística.
On the top of this post, Sadie and her remake of Richard Avedon´s famous photoshoot. Sadie wears a wide leg jump suit with some sparkling crystals that draw elephant nails shape. Straps and earrings are made of tagua. She pays a tribute to African and Asian elephants, marvellous creatures that have been either killed for their tusks or enslaved and abused in circuses or as tourist atraction.
