S.Café, QMilch and Seacell may sound like name brands of instant coffee, powdered milk and seaweed vitamins but they could be hardly found in your cupboard since they are actually new organic fabrics which manufacturers boast they are the most environmental friendly human made textiles.

S.Café, QMilch y Seacell pueden parecer nombres de marcas de café soluble, leche en polvo y vitaminas a base de algas pero dificilmente encontraríamos estos productos en nuestras despensas ya que son en realidad nuevos tejidos orgánicos de los cuales dicen sus productores son el último grito en textiles ecológicos hechos por el ser humano.

S.Café: Produced by Taiwanese firm Singtex, this fabric is made with recycled coffee grounds and offers some interesting properties such as odor control, UV protection and fast-drying which means that S.Café is perfect for sportswear.

Seacell: If mermaids wore clothes, they would use this "sea silk" that is made with seaweed and used mainly in bras, underwear and bedding. According to its German manufacturer Zimmer AG, Seacell is a breathable textile that absorbes what your skin expels, meaning that these antibacterial and fungicidal functions makes Seacell a very skin-friendly fabric.

QMilch: Made of spoiled milk and created by German biochemist Anke Domaske, the brand fiber Qmilch is the newest of the three and the fashion label Mademoiselle Chi Chi has already included this milk made fabric in its garments.

Many models at Viktor & Rolf show were spotted wearing tortoise shell printed shoes.

Y también estampados textiles que recuerdan mucho a los dibujos de los caparazones de las tortugas.

Afortunadamente para las tortugas, el comercio de carey natural fue prohibido a nivel internacional en 1973, aunque ya en los años 60 ,debido a la escasez y elevado precio del material, comenzó a sustituirse por acetato de celulosa.

Fortunately tortoise shell trade was banned worldwide in 1973 but some years before, this rare and expensive material had been already replaced by cellulose acetate.

Amelia Earth Heart

Does Sadie make a convincing Amelia Earhart or do you think that she looks like the Atomic Ant? I had wanted to draw Sadie as the famous pilot since I read last week an interesting article on the cosmetics jars found on a remote Pacific island and thought to belong to the legendary Amelia Earhart and apart from that, I wanted also to honor her 115th birthday. As I have seen this morning, Google had the same idea.
As we aren´t indifferent to what goes on in the world, we have also wanted to homage all forest fires victims (human and animal, of course) and all those that fight to put out these infernos mostly caused by the hand of man (let´s say that pyromaniatics are environmental terrorists!)

Amelia Earhart´s anti-freckle cream jar? / ¿La crema de Amelia Earhart para combatir las pecas?


¿Resulta Sadie convincente en el papel de Amelia Earhart o parece más bien la Hormiga Atómica? Me apetecía dibujar a Sadie emulando a la famosa aviadora desde que la semana pasada leí un interesante artículo acerca de los restos de frascos de cosméticos encontrados en una remota isla del Pacífico y que se cree que pertenecieron a la malograda aventurera. Quería además hacerle un pequeño homenaje con motivo de su 115 cumpleaños y como he visto esta mañana, Google ha tenido la misma idea.
Como no somos indiferentes a lo que pasa en el mundo, hemos aprovechado la ocasión para rendir también un pequeño homenaje a las víctimas (humanas y animales, naturalmente) de los incendios forestales y a todos aquellos que luchan contra estos infiernos provocados en la mayoría de las veces por la mano humana (aunque a los causantes de estas tragedias no se les puede llamar "humanos")¡Los pirómanos son simplemente terroristas del medio ambiente!
